Curls. Coils. Waves.

We’ve been working with textured hair since 1990. Our evolved dry-cutting technique is shaped by decades of experience and rooted in respect.

At Cuttlefish, textured hair has never been an afterthought. Long before it became a trend, we were cutting curls, training stylists, and creating space for people often overlooked by traditional salons.

Our curl education began with DevaCut training in New York. But as our experience deepened, so did our approach. We didn’t just follow a method. We built our own. Our technique is more adaptive, more intuitive, and exclusive to our studios.

Curls are cut dry, in their natural state, so our stylists can shape based on how the hair actually lives. Some cuts are curl-by-curl, others freehand. It all depends on the person in the chair.

We use high-performance, naturally derived products, free from silicones, sulphates, and heavy oils, to cleanse, hydrate and define, leaving curls soft, strong and frizz-free.

Why dry cutting?

Because curls behave differently when dry. Shrinkage, pattern and density all reveal themselves. Cutting dry means working with what’s real, not a guess at how it might fall after styling.

Your appointment & how to prepare

Your stylist will cut your curly hair while it's dry and in its natural state.

• Please arrive at the salon with your curls conditioned, detangled, dried, and un-styled (no twist-outs, braids, curling or flat irons or any other manipulation).

• Let your hair hang loosely, accessories like ponytail holders can disrupt your curl pattern.

• If you're currently using products with sulphates, silicones or heavy oils, do your best to avoid them for one to two weeks before your booking. Ditching those ingredients will make your hair softer, more hydrated and more defined, which will allow the stylist to see your true curl type.
